"It is now clear that the textbook description
of this once-obscure ailment is woefully incomplete and describes only a minority of cases. Below the tip of the so-called Celiac
iceberg is a diverse world of illness that may include
thousands of people suffering
from various, seemingly unrelated conditions, such as anemia, osteoporosis, infertility, irritable bowel
syndrome and chronic fatigue."

Learn the difference between Celiac Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS and other bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease, gall bladder disease, colitis, proctitis, various digestive disease and intestinal disease. All or most of these bowel or intestinal disorders can be similar to Celiac Disease and can manifest with symptoms of severe diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and weight loss, to name a few. Celiac Disease can present with few symptoms and can be associated with autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, anemia, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and infertility. Symptoms of celiac disease can vary with each individual. They can range from no symptoms at all to many symptoms of intestinal disease. Celiac Sprue is not a food allergy and those with celiac disease are gluten intolerant. Food allergies and wheat sensitivity or wheat or food allergies are much different than having celiac disease, however wheat free and gluten free cookbooks can be helpful for those with food allergies. Celiac disease is a genetic, inheritable immunologic disease which interferes with the digestion process. Celiac Disease can also present with few symptoms and can be associated with autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, anemia, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and infertility. Many intestinal diseases mimic celiac disease, such as the intestinal disorder group of inflammatory bowel disease, which includes intestinal illnesses as colitis, Crohn' disease, and proctitis. The symptoms of these intestinal conditions are very similar to the symptoms of celiac disease, another intestinal disease. Celiac disease is most commonly misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome, gall bladder disease, Crohn's disease or ulcer or other digestive or intestinal disease. Cooking without gluten and using wheat and gluten free recipes is much easier than in the past, due to many new gluten free and wheat free product manufacturers who make cooking gluten free effortless.
